IT Hardware and Software FAQs
Here are some common questions regarding IT software and hardware purchases:
1. Can departments purchase software licenses for faculty and staff using state funds or grant funds to use on their personal computers?
Purchasing software licenses with any university funds for personal use or to be installed on a NON-NCSU/Poole College-owned device is NOT permissible.
2. Can faculty/researchers purchase software licenses for their students to use on their personal computers using university?
Purchasing software licenses with state or grant funds for students for personal use to be installed on a NON-NCSU/Poole College-owned device is NOT permissible.
3. Can I use my P-Card to purchase software and hardware online?
- All software requiring purchase or renewal of purchase for installation or use on an NCSU/Poole college-owned device must have prior approval from the IT team before purchase.
- The IT team must process all hardware purchases utilizing the UNC-approved list of vendors in the MarketPlace e-procurement system.
4. If I submit the receipt, can I be reimbursed for the software I purchased using my personal funds?
- All software requiring purchase or renewal of purchase for installation or use on an NCSU-owned device must have prior approval from the IT team before purchase, and documentation must be provided along with the request for reimbursement.
- The Business support team will ensure the purchase receives prior approval before processing requests for reimbursement. If the software was not approved for purchase, your request for reimbursement will be denied, and the software will be removed from your device.
