Standard Operating Procedure: Responsible Computing Use Password Policy
Background & Scope
All Poole IT Service desk team members are committed to the responsible use of our computing resources. Our users are entitled to and can expect from our IT staff responsible behavior, respect for others, and responsible use of our technical support services from those charged with managing and maintaining the computers, equipment, and IT systems within the Poole College of Management.
Respect for Others: As employees of the Poole IT Service desk in the Poole College of Management at NC State University, we will respect our rights and privacy as well as those we serve.
Responsible use: Privacy violations include accessing other people’s data or electronic mail or spying on their communications.
The faculty and staff of Poole College of Management at NC State University are responsible for taking the time to select and secure their passwords. Passwords are an essential aspect of computer security; they are the front line of protecting user accounts. A poorly chosen password may result in the compromise of NC State’s entire computer network. No Poole IT Service desk employee may ever request another unit member(s) for a personal password or NC State UnityID password. If anyone ever requests or demands a university computer or a UnityID password, please inform the Director of IT, Sasha Challgren.
This policy applies to all individuals hired to work as a Student Computer Consultant within the Poole College of Management and granted access to the IT systems, allowing the ability to support Poole College/university-owned equipment.
