- VPN is your best friend; Using a VPN when on your home network ensures your internet traffic is encrypted. This means your ISP (internet service provider) will not be able to sell your entire browsing history to the highest bidder.
- If you are working with any sensitive data (student records, financial information) or email which passes sensitive data via conversations, this includes when you are in Google browser it is not protected unless you are on a secure network:
- While on campus that is eduroam Wifi (here are instructions on how to register your device with eduroam at NC State
- While off-campus that means connecting via NC State’s VPN first
- As much as we would like to believe our government doesn’t collect information about us, they do. They can track our browsing activity, messages, social posts, and other private data. Using a VPN will make this much harder since it will encrypt your data and hide your IP address.
