Description

Adobe Creative Cloud

Updated November 1, 2024

There are two types of licenses for Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe CC)

Named-user license (NUL)
– This is connected to an individual.
– Adobe CC can be installed on two computers associated with a named user.
– One license must be installed on your Poole College-owned device; the second installation can be on an employee’s personal machine.
– Only full-time employees are eligible for a NUL. Others (e.g., students, part-time employees, temp workers, no-pay employees, emeritus professors) can access Adobe apps on university-owned computers where a shared device license is installed. See the Adobe FAQ doc linked above for a complete list.

Eligibility for an Adobe CC NUL is based on your employment status; the following groups are ineligible for Adobe CC education NUL:
> Emeritus professors
> Retirees
>Temporary Employees
> “No-pay” Employees
> Students (unless they are also full-time employees)

Shared device license (SDL):
Any active employee, including temporary employees, may use Adobe CC on a shared university-owned computer with a Shared Device License. These are computers used by multiple people.
– This license is connected to a computer, not a specific user, such as a computer at a reception desk.
– Anyone who logs into that computer can use Adobe CC.
– Adobe defines eligible computers as follows: “Shared Device Licensing is not intended to be used on a single owner/user device. It can be used on any institutionally owned machine accessed by multiple users.”
– The computer must be owned by NCSU/Poole College.

Acquiring and accessing Adobe Creative Cloud
For active, permanent employees department heads/managers can request licenses for active, full-time, and permanent employees who have a demonstrated need for an annual license for Adobe Creative Cloud (this provides access to Adobe Acrobat Professional, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier, etc.) for installation on Poole College owned devices.

Please fill out this form to request an Adobe Creative Cloud license, and the Poole IT team will proceed with the next steps.

Unpaid appointments, separated, retired, or inactive employees
If these individuals need access to Adobe Creative Cloud on university computers, they must use a shared university computer with a Shared Device License.

Employee purchase options for personally owned computers
Teachers may purchase from Adobe products (each costing as little as $19.99 per month with Adobe’s Student & Teacher Discount program)
Employees may purchase Adobe CC directly from Adobe for $34.99 per month or individual applications at a lower cost using the Adobe educational discount program

Logging in to use Adobe software
– Adobe products now prompt an Adobe login when running any CC products.
– You will use your Enterprise ID if you have a named user license.
– If you do not have a named user license, you can sign up for a free Adobe ID:
>> Go to accounts.adobe.com and select Create an Account.
>> When prompted, select Personal Account and NOT Company or School Account.
>> You can sign up with your NCSU or any other email.
– When logging in to use Adobe software, select the correct ID type: Personal Account for shared computers, e.g., in labs; Company or School Account if you have a named user license assigned to you.
